The Norbertines of St Michael’s Abbey in Silverado, California use this program as a transitional year for students who have completed a course in scholastic philosophy and plan to enter the theology cycle at St Philip’s Seminary, Toronto.
Diocesan seminarians who have completed the two-year philosophy cycle at St Philip’s Seminary but require additional university-level work for entrance to major seminary use the Map Year to complete their pre-theological studies.
Students with university training who have not yet studied philosophy or worked in the humanities use the Map Year as an intensive preparation for seminary studies.
Seminarians destined for advanced study in theology after ordination profit from the investigation of the philosophical foundations of contemporary Catholic theology, a topic stressed neither in university-level philosophy courses nor in seminary courses of dogmatic and pastoral theology.
